Test Drives: 1998 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro

This compact entry-level luxury sedan was very enjoyable to drive. The Quattro system makes it a very popular car in Canada during the winter months. Although the car is compact in dimension, it was surprisingly roomy inside, for the front two occupants. Rear seat accommodations are not good at all. The V6 engine is not overly powerful or quick at low RPMs but for a car of its size, the engine is well matched. The interior fit & finish are excellent with no rattles for a car with 90,000kms. The 5-speed manual provided an abundance of fun as I zipped through suburban Winnipeg roads. On the down side, the seats offer little back or thigh support. My initial impression of the car was a better looking Volkswagen. Upon driving it, I realized that the Audi is much more than an expensive Jetta. Audi has come a long, long way!
