Test Drives: 2000 Audi TT Coupe
|
|
This is a unique Audi that gets a lot of attention on the road. I drove this particular TT Coupe with its winter tire package on it so it was not as enjoyable as it could have been (with its 17-inch Z-rated rubber). The quattro-equipped 1.8 turbo 4-cylinder was fun to drive when mated with the 5-speed manual. However, as with most cars, you have to pick the larger engine to really enjoy the car. The optional engine is a 1.8T high-pressure turbo 4-cylinder with 225bhp and a 6-speed manual, as opposed to the 180bhp regular 1.8T. The interior is a bold move from Audi which is very attractive. The use of aluminum trim and black materials are well placed and appropriately proportioned. The exterior shape is reminiscent of a Volkswagen instead of an Audi though. The eliptical taillights and xenon headlamps are very attractive. I took several photos of the vehicle from different angles but was not able to replicate the accentuating photos that Audi produces of the TTs lines. An extremely high shoulder line and low roof make for very small windows. Visibility does not seem to be compromised though. With the legendary Quattro system, this is a very appealing sports car for Winnipegers. However, if you are looking for fun (ie. wheel spin) you will have to opt for the 225bhp 6-speed manual edition.
