Test Drives: 2001 Audi TT Coupe

This was the second TT that I drove from St. James. This TT was equipped with the high-turbo 225bhp 1.8T 4-cylinder engine, mated with the revolutionary Quattro system. This coupe was also equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. Off the line, there wasn't too much pedal response, but at 3000rpm, the turbo really kicks in. This TT sounds completely unique from the 180bhp TT, especially the sound of the turbo. The steering is not overly assisted but not very precise either. The suspension is very tight at low speeds but over 100kph, it becomes less predictable. The exterior has loads of eye-appear, thanks to the beautiful paint finish, Amulet Red. Of the two choices for the TT, I would definitely recommend the higher-turbo engine.
