Test Drives: 2007 BMW 328xi Coupe
The day this test drive occurred happened to be the day of the first real snowstorm of winter in Toronto. Luckily, it provided a great opportunity to put the all-wheel drive system to trial. This particular coupe was equipped with both a Premium Package and Sport Package, as well as being a 6-speed manual.
The drive was brief so the review will be brief. Interior appointments are typical BMW. Most noteworthy feature is the power retracting seatbelt extender so the driver doesn't have to reach so far back to grab the belt. Sport seats provide enhanced side bolstering, although I would not want to be a 250-pounder in those seats. Most disappointing feature was the poor feel of the push-button start, which feels rather springy in its design.
Equipped with snow tires and xDrive, this Coupe was planted to the snow-covered roads. Normally in this segment, you cannot boast about this quality. BMW is a leader in offering a configuration such as this, one that combines a sporty coupe appearance, capable powertrain, all-wheel drive, and manual transmission. Its nearest competition is the Infiniti G35 Coupe. However, look for a few other luxury automakers to enter the segment in the coming years.
