Test Drives: 1998 BMW 528i Sport

BMWs 5-Series platform is actually a very large car. I have driven 7-Series before that feel too big. The 5-Series seems just perfect in terms of its purpose as a four-door sedan and a sporty, quick machine. This 528I was equipped with a Sport Package that included 17-inch P235/45ZR17 rubber on stunning multi-spoked, machined rims. The suspension is true BMW! Although the 528i has under 200bhp out of a 6 cylinder engine, when mated to a 5-speed manual, it does the job just fine. The steering is very precise and with just enough assist, which is to say, not very much. Rear seat accommodations are ample for four adults with lots of head room. The Audiophile stereo system is a must. Although an expensive option, it is a pleasure to be able to listen to music of any taste. My complaints are limited to an annoying sound the anti-theft system makes when arming and disarming. It sounds aftermarket. Overall, a great vehicle to choose if you are a sports car driver at heart but your lifestyle demands four doors.
