Test Drives: 2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe

The G35 Coupe is essentially a four-seater Nissan 350Z. The bold exterior styling of the coupe has little in common with the sedan with which shares its name. The overall look of the vehicle is one with a unique design, long wheelbase, and short overhangs front and rear. The sport package improves the look with 18-inch alloy wheels and aggressive rubber. Upon opening the doors, the resemblance to the sedan becomes apparent. Overly-bolstered front sport seats are unique to the seat. I found them to be very snug, a little too snug. With the turn of the ignition, the coupe gives a very sporty exhaust note. Rev the engine a bit and carefully listen as the engine returns to idle, a great sound! With 280 horsepower, this normally aspirated 3.5L V6 accelerates at lightning speed. Just a slight touch on the accelerator launches the coupe forward. The automatic transmission shiftly very quickly, although I would prefer to have first gear for a little longer. The manumatic mode gives more control of first gear than other manumatic systems. I think I would prefer the short-throw 6-speed manual. At $49,000, this car will definitely give the BMW 330Ci a run for its money.
