Test Drives: 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan M6

Infiniti has aggressively attacked BMW's 3-Series with its own G35, essentially a rebadged Nissan Skyline from Asia. The front midship platform features a 3.5L V6 engine powering the rear wheels, an essential layout in this class. The G35 is a fairly large car, but drives like compact sports car. The 6-speed manual was introduced to expand the product line, which will eventually include an AWD variant. The short-shifting transmission is a carbon copy of that in the G-Coupe and 350Z sports car. It seems a little mis-matched for the larger sedan. I would prefer slightly longer and smoother gear throws, essentially like a BMW. One thing the G35 has going for it is value. This particular sedan had a sticker of $44,150 which undercuts a 330i by several thousand dollars. For an automatic-equipped sport sedan, I'll order a G35 Aero, black on black. If a manual tranny is a must on the criteria list, I'll order a 330i, Sterling Grey, black leather, with a sport pack.
