Test Drives: 2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 Sport

This Jaguar is a very popular choice among S-Type customers. The 4.0L V8 engine is borrowed from the XJ-sedans and is extremely capable in the smaller S-Type. At 290-bhp, the S-Type is very fast but smooth as well. The interior is not ergonomically perfect; however, this is a Jaguar. Rear parking aid is a nice touch, as well as the trip-computer, and extremely comfortable captain's "chairs" in the front two seats. The exterior style is bold and unique, although the sides have too many lines from front to back. The taillights look very sharp (recently added to the XK-Series). Overall, the car is a definite eye-catcher on the road, largely a result of the unique front end. Although the platform is shared with a Lincoln sedan, a 4.0L S-Type is about as Jaguar as the XJ-Series. The next generation should focus more attention on the interior though.
