Test Drives: 2000 Jaguar XK8 Convertible

This XK8 was a rare sport edition with XKR brakes and 18-inch wheels. However, I drove this car in the winter with 17-inch snow tires. The car is surprisingly quiet with the top up and down. Wind noise was not a problem in convertible form. The audio/climate control buttons still need to be simplified, as there are too many buttons to distinguish. Also, the J-gate transmission level needs a better quality material than cheap plastic. There seemed to be a quiet but noticeable mechanical noise behind the climate control buttons that persisted even with the stereo and climate control functions off. Nevertheless, this car is a fabulous grand touring automobile. The steering is precise and the driver has great communication with the road. The sculpted hood gives the car an aggressive appearance from both inside and outside the car. Lastly, if you like wood, the Jag has plenty of it.
