Test Drives: 2001 Jaguar XKR Convertible
|
|
I was fortunate enough to be able to try this fabulous convertible on a beautiful Winnipeg summer day, courtesy of Jaguar on Sargent. It is a true grand touring automobile from England. The distinguishing features of the supercharged version of the XK8 are the mesh-grille, the white & red taillights, the hood, the rims, and the letters 'supercharged' inside the tachometer circle gauge. This Jaguar has a fabulous grunt sound in the exhaust and, when combined with the purr of the engine produce a true sports car musical piece. The car is an economic alternative to an Aston Martin DB7, which it closely (if not mistakingly) resembles. The power-operated top works efficiently and quitely with the push of a button. I believe that the steering should be stiffer than the tamer XK8. For 2001, there are chrome accents around the revised headlights & taillights, and a chrome strip above the license plate holding. The car is an absolute eye-catcher on the road; truly a car that lives up to its brand image. Well done, Jaguar.
